SINGAPORE, 9 April 2025 – Fullerton Fund Management (“Fullerton”), in collaboration with SGX Group, today announced the winners of the Fullerton / SGX Value-Up Singapore Equities Challenge (“The Challenge”). Sohei Capital from Singapore Management University clinched the championship, walking away with the top prize of S$10,000. Team #REF and T_Party claimed second and third place, taking home S$5,000 and S$3,000 respectively.
Sohei Capital impressed the judges with their deep research into business fundamentals, growth drivers and sector dynamics. Through the Challenge, all finalist teams stepped into the shoes of real-world investment professionals – identifying opportunities in the local equities space, constructing and managing portfolios, and presenting defensible investment theses backed by rigorous research and insights.1

Over six weeks, participants of the Challenge constructed and managed portfolios of Singapore-listed securities on InvestSG, a Singapore market-focused community platform. The top six teams then advanced to an in-person stock pitch challenge at
SGX Centre, where they presented their investment theses to a panel of judges from Fullerton, SGX Group, Temasek and IMAS.
The Challenge was designed to spark greater interest in Singapore equities among tertiary students by providing a real-world, analyst-like environment for them to identify and evaluate opportunities in the Singapore market at a deeper level. Many participants already had personal investing experience, and the Challenge channeled that passion into a focused exploration of Singapore-listed companies, sectors and stocks.
Students who have performed strongly in the Challenge, are eligible for consideration for internship opportunities at Fullerton, which would serve as a pathway to potential permanent placement as research analysts and portfolio managers, subject to internship performance.
Commenting on the performance of the finalists, Ken Goh, Chief Investment Officer, Fullerton Fund Management said: “As a judge, I was looking for talents, who were able to distil rigorous research with an astute mind, to make wise judgements. Through the Challenge, the finalists have proven themselves to be meticulous, passionate and thoughtful in their pursuit of investment excellence. They challenged assumptions rigorously, backed their views with insights and exhibited excellent teamwork. What is more important is for the Challenge to help create our next generation of investment professionals, who would serve with passion and purpose.”
Complementing this perspective, Chan Kum Kong, Head of Capital Market Development, SGX Group said: “What impressed me in this Challenge as a judge, was how well the teams understood the importance of unlocking shareholder value. They not only dug into the numbers, but also the strategies and execution plans of company leadership. That understanding is critical, because companies that are intentional and transparent about value creation are the ones best positioned to grow sustainably in Singapore’s equity market.”
The Challenge proved to be a formative experience for the participating teams. Commenting on their win, Sohei Capital said: “This challenge opened our eyes to opportunities we might not have considered before. Our three key takeaways were: first, the importance of exploring new opportunities; second, the value of going beyond conventional research to uncover hidden value; and third, that Singapore’s market is full of high-quality companies where strong management is just as vital as a solid business model in driving future growth. We would like to thank Fullerton and SGX Group for hosting this challenge, the esteemed judges for carving out time from their busy schedules to give us invaluable feedback, and our seniors from SMU EYE Investment Club for their unwavering guidance and support.”
